Mumbai ( Bombay ) to Hampi by Train Mumbai ( Bombay ) to Hampi by Train : There is only one direct train from Mumbai to Hospet (the railway station for Hampi). The weekly Ajmer-Yesvantpur Garib Nawaz Express connects western India with Hampi. The train is named after the Islamic scholar and saint Khwaja Gharib Nawaz whose darga ( shrine) is located in Ajmer. The No 6531 Garib Nawaz Express arrives at Kalyan Jn by 1.05 AM departs by 1.10 AM on Tuesdays. In the return direction No 6531 Garib Nawaz Express coming from Bangalore (Yesvantpur ) leaves from Hospet junction by 2.30 AM on Saturdays and reach Kalyan by 21.40 PM the same day.

Haripriya & Rayalaseema Express route Haripriya & Rayalaseema Express : are a pair of trains that connects Hampi (Hospet Jn) with Hyderabad , Tirupati and C. Shahu Mharaj Terminus (Kholapur ). The route bifurcates at Guntakal Junction. The coaches heading towards Hyderabad and Tirupati are separated at Guntakal Jn and connected to the trains heading to the respective destinations. However if you are having the direct reserved ticket to your destination, you won’t notice the changeover, except the delay at this station. Generally you won’t even notice this delay as the trains reach Guntakal during the midnight and re-attaches your coaches.....

Some of the viable transit stations for the Chennai to Hospet rail journey are Tirupati, Renigunta and Guntakal. Tirupati , because the Kholapur bound Rayalaseema express from Tirupati passes via Hospet.

About 3 daily trains (1028 – Mumbai Mail , 1042- Mumbai Express ,and 2164 – Chennai Express ) connects Chennai central to Guntakal. Two of them are night trains and one is a day train. All of them go towards Mumbai from Chennai via Guntakal......

This weekly train starts from Ajmer in Rajastan and terminates at Yesvantpur Jn , a suburb of Bangalore in Karnataka. Garib Nawaz Express covers about 2300 kilometers (1430 miles) in two days and two nights journey.

As far as Hampi is concerned , Garib Nawaz Express the only train that connects it with the northern India and major cities western Indian cities like Mumbai and Pune. If you are opting for Garib Nawaz Express to travel to Hampi , book your destination as Hospet . This is the nearest railway station for Hampi. That train passes though Hospet Junction, the nearest railway station for Hampi. Those coming from the eastern parts of India to Hampi, this is a suitable train. The train covers its 2155 kilometers (1340 miles) journey in 2 days.

Yesvantpur Jodhpur Summer Train  ( April to June 2008 ) Yesvantpur Jodhpur Summer Train ( April to June 2008 ) : Indian Railways has introduced a pair of special summer trains between Jodhpur in Rajastan to Yesvantpur Jn ( near Bangalore). The happy news is the trains pass via Hospet . So people heading towards Hampi , especially from Maharastra , here is a direct train for you.
The only disadvantage is that the up train ( Train No.0674 Yesvantpur Jn- Jodhpur Jn ) reaches at an odd hour of the night ( 2.25 AM ) at Hospet Junction. Hospet is not big railway station to have plenty of auto & taxi service at that time of the night. Or hope that there would be a few autos waiting for the YPR-Jodhpur Express passengers. .....

Grand Trunk Express GT Express or Grand Trunk Express connecting Delhi and Chennai is one of the oldest trains in India.

Started in year 1929 , the train took its name from the ancient Grand Trunk Road that passed through the Indian subcontinent.

GT Express covers 2184 kilometers ( miles ) in 3 days connecting 36 stations in the New Delhi to Chennai Central route. GT takes about 35 1/2 hours compared to the more 'glamourous' Tamilnadu express (32 1/2) , Chennai Rajadhani (28 hours) or Chennai Garib Rath ( 28 hours) .

GT Express compares better with Tamilnadu Express as the Rajadhani and Garib Rath are upscale and don't operate daily.
